SoCal Nonprofits Working to End Homelessness

Job Search

With over 180,000 homeless individuals, California has the largest homeless population in the nation which represents almost a third of the nation’s homeless population. The majority of California’s homeless is concentrated in Southern California, stretching from San Diego County to San Luis Obispo County, causing an unprecedented strain on local resources, services, shelters, food banks and housing in the region. California has more than 450 organizations focused on homeless assistance with over 250 SoCal nonprofits working to end homelessness in the region.

As is the case around the country, nonprofit organizations are stepping in and stepping up to fill the gaps that government agencies struggle to fulfill. To meet the demand many SoCal nonprofits working to end homelessness are currently looking for talented individuals to strengthen their care, outreach and services to the unhoused. The six organizations below care for thousands of individuals and families and are working tirelessly towards ending homelessness in Southern California – and they are actively hiring.

Union Station Homeless Services:

Union Station Homeless Services is a nonprofit organization dedicated to combating homelessness in the San Gabriel Valley region of Southern California. With a mission to help individuals and families rebuild their lives, Union Station Homeless Services offers a comprehensive range of programs and services aimed at providing shelter, support, and resources to those experiencing homelessness. The Alpha Project addresses the complex challenges of homelessness in San Diego through a multifaceted approach. Headquartered in Los Angeles, the People Assisting The Homeless (PATH) organization works towards providing resources and services to help individuals break the cycle of homelessness. The Safe Place for Youth (SPY) is a youth-focused organization based in Venice, Los Angeles. The nonprofit aims to end youth homelessness in Southern California through outreach programs and case management services. The rising homelessness we see today in Southern California is the result of decades of underbuilding and underfunding. There is no quick fix and as states around the country wrestle with the myriad challenges facing our homeless populations, Southern California faces an unprecedented crisis that will take more resources, focus, and people power. The nonprofit organizations mentioned above are just a few examples of the organizations tirelessly working towards ending homelessness in Southern California.
